Who is a teacher?

Well, this is something that got my brain cells to work. Who is a teacher and can anyone be a teacher?

As I go through the online knowledge sources, especially wikipedia, I see the definition of a teacher as a person who provides the schooling for others. A teacher needs to have the necessary educational qualifications and also it seems to be an occupation/profession.

The first teacher that a person meets is his/her mother. Perhaps the less fortunate ones would have been meeting his/her father/guardian. The first laws and lessons of existence is learnt from them. They guide the toddlers,” the guide to existence”. This is specially reflected in all living beings. And then for higher primitives, we move onto someone who can enlighten us for the one thing we have been searching” our reason for existence”.

A teacher need not be qualified, need not have educational backgrounds, but should be wise to show someone the right and wrong, the virtues and vices. Many of us have encountered such teachers, perhaps not in schools but in lives. And they bring to us that joy and lightness to our eyes. They are truly the eye openers. According to the Hindu ethics, If a Person sees God and a teacher, he should first salute the teacher, as it is teacher who has shown the way to the almighty.

In these days of race to riches, many of us forget the virtues of being a teacher and student. We forget that qualities rule, not quantities. History has been a fact to that. Empires, even if its business empires rose because of principles, not on brutality. It is an honor to be a teacher, but we need to inspire and show others the way for better living. We may not have the educational background, but the virtues in our hands, could carve a beautiful mind for a great teacher. Lets not leave the urge for a better and best living.
